Contra dancing is an Americanized dance, based on English, Irish, and Scottish country dancing. Music is lively and energetic, played on a variety of instruments ... fiddle, banjo, guitar, dulcimer, mandolin, spoons, keyboard, and more.
A caller leads the dancers through a sequence of moves, most often done in long lines, sometimes in circles or squares. All dances are taught, people are friendly and beginners are always welcome. It's fun for all ages --teenagers through seniors. You don't need a partner.... we promise you'll get to dance. In fact, you'll dance with everybody there!
Recommended dress is cool and casual, with soft-soled shoes.
